...a caveman can do it

Recently we acquired an allotment of old hp 6120 laptop to be provisioned for Linux Against Poverty, a great charitable organization in Austin which gives computers to schools.

In preparing the systems by wiping all data, cleaning them up we then got to the OS install. These machines came with Windows XP and as I recall were always buggy and slow. After contacting LAP, they asked us to install Ubuntu Linux on the systems.

I was leery at first, Ubuntu on an older system, I though it might run into driver issues or system errors, etc., but after the initial install everything worked on the laptop including some functionality that was not working in the prior windows install and to boot the install took all of twenty minutes. I thought this was so easy a caveman...well you know the rest.

Open office came with the install so office files were not an issue, Firefox for browsing, and evolution for mail all easy to setup. Ubuntu has come along way currently at rev 9.04 from the 2.5 i installed a few years back. I am very impressed with both Ubuntu and Linux Against poverty. Have a great week!
