Recently and unfortunately I was involved in a family emergency where my son was seriously injured to the face. Fortunately he is alright and will recover completely, but I learned a valuable lesson during this ordeal.
Over the summer, my son had been to scout camp and had taken a first aid class on shock and severe trauma. He was able to apply that exact training in this activity to his injury. He was able to reason and quickly assess his state and calm himself and make the call for us to come and assist him. I could not be more proud of my son's ability to stay calm and follow through on his training instinctively that lead to the inevitable good outcome.
We can all take a lesson from my scout son. We are always going to be faced with work or personal issues that may seem more than we are able to handle or repair, but if you can remain calm, assess the situation, do a quick check down, and then react accordingly you will be able to face and complete any task that work or life can hand you.
I could not have been prouder of my son through this ordeal and I thank God he is safe and sound and will soon recover. A father could not be prouder.
Have a great week!
Thanks
Abel

A far cry from his dad's
A far cry from his dad's reaction when he saw his own blood for the first time...BLOOD!! BLOOD!! ;) LOL. Good to hear that Little Abel remained calm in a very scary situation.

Re: Staying Calm
A fine example of the excellent life skills instilled by the Cub and Boy Scouts of America. I was one myself and I hope my son will be in the years to come.
I am urging the wife to assist the daughter with Girl Scouts as well.
These groups help foster skills that can, as you have well stated, be extremely helpful and in some events life saving.
Kuddos to your kiddo! Hope all is well.
Best Regards,
